Random Pair Generator
Paste your names and get random partners in one click — nobody is ever left alone.
Tip: Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Enter on Mac) runs it, from the list or from the page.
My saved lists
Keep a few lists on this device (a class, a team, a chore rota) and reload them in any tool.
Leave some out for now
Absent, already picked, not today? Tap an entry to leave it out of the draw without deleting it.
How it works
- Paste the names of everyone taking part — one per line or separated by commas.
- Press Make pairs. With an odd number of people, the last pair becomes a group of three.
- Not happy? Reshuffle pairs. Copy the pairs as text or share them with a link.
What people use it for
Study and lab partners
Fair random partners for class activities, peer review or lab work.
Coffee and networking
Random one-to-one coffees or mentoring pairs across a team.
Games and sport
Doubles partners for tennis, padel or a board game tournament.
Questions
- What if the number of people is odd?
- Nobody is left out: the last pair becomes a trio.
- Are the pairs truly random?
- Yes. The list is shuffled with an unbiased Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by your browser's cryptographic random generator, then paired in order.
- Can I make bigger groups?
- Yes. Switch to Teams to choose 2 to 10 groups, or use the Random Team Generator page.
