Cable Cut List Calculator
Write one length per line, with a quantity if you need several, add the allowance you keep for connectors or slack, and get the total length to buy plus the cut list with each piece’s subtotal.
Total to buy
14 m
4 pieces · longest 4.5 m
| Line | Length | Qty | Each + allowance | Subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 | 1 | 2.5 | 2.5 |
| 2 | 3 | 2 | 3.5 | 7 |
| 3 | 4 | 1 | 4.5 | 4.5 |
How it works
- Pick the unit, then type one length per line, such as 2.5 or 2.5 x 4 for four pieces.
- Enter the allowance added to every piece (0 for none).
- Read the total, the number of pieces and the longest piece.
- Copy the summary or the cut list for your supplier or your shopping list.
What people use it for
Wiring a room or a rack
Total the runs to each socket or patch point before ordering a drum.
Stage and AV cables
List the lengths a show needs and how many of each to cut.
Comparing with a reel
Check the total against what the reel calculator says a drum holds.
Questions
- How is the total calculated?
- Total = sum of quantity × (length + allowance) for every line. Three cables of 2 m with 0.5 m allowance each count 3 × 2.5 = 7.5 m.
- What does the allowance cover?
- Whatever you decide: stripping the ends, connectors, a service loop. It is added once to every piece, not once per line.
- Which line formats are accepted?
- A length (2 or 2.5, a comma works as the decimal mark) or a length and a whole quantity separated by x, × or *. Empty lines are ignored; a negative value, a zero length or a line that is not a number is refused with its line number. Up to 500 lines. Note that 1,000 is read as 1 (a comma is a decimal mark here), so type 1000 without a comma.
- Does it account for cut waste on a reel?
- No: it adds what you list. The remaining length of a reel is not tracked.
