How it works
- Open your .gpx file in a text editor and paste its content, or load it with the file button.
- Choose what to remove: timestamps, track names and metadata, sensor extensions, and the distance to cut at each end.
- Check the number of points kept and removed.
- Copy the cleaned GPX or download it, and share that file instead of the original.
What people use it for
Sharing a route
Publish a ride on a forum or a club page without exposing your front door.
Removing sensor data
Drop heart rate, cadence and power extensions that your watch added.
Hiding the timing
Strip the timestamps so nobody can tell when you were away from home.
Questions
- How are the start and end trimmed?
- The tool adds up the great-circle distance between consecutive points (haversine formula, Earth radius 6,371 km) from each end and removes the points until at least the chosen distance has been covered. A track shorter than twice that distance is removed entirely.
- Is that enough to hide my address?
- Not always. Trimming 200 m hides the door itself but the street can still be guessed from where the track appears. Use a larger distance if the route leaves a short dead-end street, and check the cleaned track on a map before sharing.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. The file is processed by your browser and never sent anywhere. Waypoints and routes are left exactly as they are, with their names: only tracks are trimmed. The tool warns you when the file contains any, so delete the ones that mark your home by hand.
