Leather Belt Hole Layout Calculator

Measure from the fold to the hole you use most, then enter it with the number of holes, the pitch between them and the margin you want at the tip. The page lists where each hole goes and the length of the belt, and draws it.

Theoretical length from the fold (mm)

295

Holes at 130 · 155 · 180 · 205 · 230
foldtip

The centre hole is the one you measured on a belt that fits. This is a length of belt, not a waist or a trouser size.

How it works

  1. Enter the distance from the fold to the centre hole, as measured on a belt that fits you.
  2. Enter an odd number of holes and the pitch between two holes.
  3. Enter the margin you want between the last hole and the tip.
  4. Read the positions and the theoretical length, check the drawing, then copy the list.

What people use it for

  • Making a belt from a measured one

Copy the spacing of a belt that fits and mark the new strap the same way.

  • More room to adjust

Go from 3 to 5 holes and see where the extra holes land and how long the belt becomes.

  • Sharing a pattern

Copy the numbers without any personal data or photo.

Questions

What is the formula?
Hole i is at x = C + (i − (n − 1) ÷ 2) × p from the fold, for i from 0 to n − 1, where C is the centre hole, n the number of holes and p the pitch. The theoretical length is the last hole plus the tip margin. The first hole must not fall before the fold, so the page refuses a layout that would.
Why an odd number of holes?
So that the middle one is the hole you measured. With an even number there would be no hole at the centre.
Is the distance from the fold my trouser size?
No. It is the length of a belt, from the fold to a hole, measured on a belt that fits you. The page does not convert it to any waist or trouser size.
Is the drawing to scale for printing?
The drawing is proportional on screen but it is not a calibrated print template. Mark your leather from the numbers with a ruler.
