Random Letter Generator
Spin the A–Z wheel and get a random letter — for word games, category rounds, classroom spelling and naming ideas.
Tip: Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Enter on Mac) runs it, from the list or from the page.
How it works
- Press Spin: one of the 26 letters is drawn, each with exactly the same chance.
- Playing several rounds? Turn on “Remove winner after each spin” so no letter comes up twice.
- Use a preset to limit the draw to vowels, consonants, or to leave out the hard letters Q, X and Z.
What people use it for
Word and category games
Draw the starting letter, then everyone names a country, an animal and a food beginning with it.
Classroom
Alphabet practice, phonics warm-ups, or “find three words starting with…” on the projector.
Naming ideas
Stuck on a name for a pet, a character or a team? Let a random first letter narrow it down.
Questions
- Is every letter equally likely?
- Yes. Each letter is one slice and the draw uses your browser's cryptographic random generator, so A and Z have exactly the same chance.
- Can I avoid getting the same letter twice?
- Yes. Turn on “Remove winner after each spin”: each drawn letter is set aside until you restore the wheel.
- Can I use another alphabet?
- Yes. Paste any letters or characters, one per line, and the wheel uses them instead.
