What people use it for
Alphabetize names
Put a class roster, a guest list or a bibliography in alphabetical order.
Numbered files and items
Use Natural order so “Chapter 2” comes before “Chapter 10”.
Random order
Shuffle a list of presenters, tasks or questions into a fair random order.
Questions
- What is natural sort?
- Natural sort reads numbers inside a line as numbers, so “item 2” comes before “item 10”. A plain A→Z sort compares character by character and puts “item 10” first.
- How does the shuffle work?
- Shuffle uses the Fisher–Yates method with your browser's cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so every order has the same chance.
- What does “Ignore case” change?
- With it, “apple” and “Apple” are treated as equal and keep their original order. Without it, the capitalized line comes first.
