HTML Email Size Checker

Paste the HTML of your email to see its exact size and how close it is to the point where Gmail hides the end behind a “View entire message” link.

Paste your email HTML below. The limit used is 102 KB, as reported for Gmail.

How it works

  1. Paste the full HTML source of your email into the box.
  2. Read the size in bytes and kilobytes, and the share of the 102 KB limit it uses.
  3. Check the style share: inline CSS repeated on every element is the usual cause of oversized emails.
  4. Trim the HTML, then paste it again until you are comfortably under the limit.

What people use it for

  • Newsletters

Make sure the footer and unsubscribe link are not cut off in Gmail.

  • Templates with heavy CSS

See how much of the weight comes from style blocks and style attributes before you minify.

  • Before a send

Run a last check on the exported HTML from your email tool.

Questions

Where does the 102 KB figure come from?
Email-marketing vendors such as Bird, Drip and Blueshift report that Gmail clips an HTML message of about 102 KB and shows a “View entire message” link. Google does not document the limit, so treat it as a widely observed guideline rather than a guarantee, and test with a real Gmail account.
Do images count towards the limit?
No. Reports say only the HTML source counts, including the image URLs, tracking links, style blocks and comments, but not the image files themselves.
How is the size measured?
In your browser, as the UTF-8 size of the text you paste (1 KB = 1,024 bytes). Accented and emoji characters take 2 to 4 bytes each. Your email provider may add headers or encode the message, so keep a safety margin: the tool flags anything above 80% of the limit.
